The Immigration Minister for New Zealand has advised that the overseas students wishing to study in New Zealand will have less formalities to deal with when obtaining a student visa.
New Zealand is now become a popular destination for foreign students to study in New Zealand as it can be a much cheaper option compared to other western countries such as United States, Canada, Australia and the UK.
Recent changes to immigration law have removed certain difficult requirements that student visa applicants have to go through to obtain entry, such as extensive police checks and medical examinations thus making the process easier for student to obtain their visa to enter New Zealand.
It is advised that temporary visas can be issued while a student's application is still being processed. In addition, background checks and medical examination renewals will only now need to be completed every three years instead of every two years.
Interim visas mean students can still study here lawfully while their application is being processed, provided that they are lawfully in New Zealand when they apply, said the Minister. Also, the students still have to meet all the standard criteria, but the visa makes the enrolment process easier for education providers, he added.
The new school year for intake for Students for New Zealand will be from February 2011, the changes will be good news to New Zealand educational institutions. The education export industry in New Zealand is a 2 billion dollar a year market.
