CANADA PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS PROGRAM INVITATION TO REOPEN AGAIN
In the beginning of 2019, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) opened the interest to sponsor form for Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). This PGP program allows the eligible Canadian Citizens and permanent residents to take the first step towards bringing their parents and grandparents to Canada on a permanent residence visa.
Every year IRCC sets a target on no. of applications to be completed under Parents and Grandparents Program and the target for completion for the year 2019 is 20,000 application.
At the intake which was held on 28th January 2019, IRCC accepted 27,000 applications on first-come , first serve basis. As soon as the PGP form opened IRCC reached its intake quota within 10 minutes.
An eligible Canadian citizen / Permanent resident must first submit an interest to sponsor form to IRCC to be considered for an invitation to apply to the PGP, which is to be done during the annual submission period in January every year. After which IRCC starts issuing invitations in the same order that IRCC receive Interest to Sponsor forms, which began on 24th April and completed the process on 27th April for this year. The potential sponsors are given 60 days time from the date they received their invitation to submit a complete application, including all supporting documentation.
The recent update from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) states that IRCC will open the interest to sponsor form again for 2019. IRCC may need more potential sponsors to meet their target number. We are hopeful that IRCC Canada Parent and Grandparents program will help potential applicants to sponsor the Parent & Grandparent to bring them to Canada on a Permanent Residence visa.
In the year 2018, IRCC held a second round of invitations to apply to the PGP at the end of July and increased its annual target from 10,000 to 17,000 complete applications.
